SHEXXII Side Event Workshop: Food Security and Biodiversity in Ifugao

This workshop is organized by Leuphana University (Germany) as a side event to the SHEXXII conference and is not part of the official program. However, the organizers are offering to pay SHEXXII registration fees for participants. If interested, contact the organizers directly via the email links below.

Invitation to a conference workshop on

System properties benefiting food security and biodiversity in the Ifugao landscape

27 November 2017, UPLB, Los Baños, Laguna

Current high-profile methods to study the nexus of food security and biodiversity fail to adequately acknowledge the complex nature of social-ecological systems. Social and ecological outcomes are interdependent and cannot be analyzed in isolation of one another. We are therefore conducting a global research on these complex interdependencies.

In line with this, we are looking for experts to participate in a one-day workshop on system properties driving food security and biodiversity in the Ifugao landscape. This will be conducted by Leuphana University (Germany) in partnership with members of the Society for Human Ecology. The goal of this workshop is to identify and characterize the properties of agricultural social-ecological systems that benefit both food security and biodiversity conservation. It will focus on the Ifugao social-ecological system, therefore participants will need to have theoretical or practical understanding of the Ifugao landscape. The process will be facilitated by Dr Neil French Collier and Ms Aisa Manlosa from Leuphana University (Germany).

This workshop is being organized as a side event to the 22nd International Conference of the Society for Human Ecology (see https://societyforhumanecology.org/ for conference details). Participants to the workshop who are also interested to attend the conference will have the benefit of having their conference registration fee paid for by Leuphana University.

For more information about the project, please check our website: https://foodandbiodiversity.wordpress.com/. You can also explore the work of group at Ideas4Sustainability: https://ideas4sustainability.wordpress.com.

For expression of intent to participate, please contact by email either Neil Collier (collier@leuphana.de or neilandertal@gmail.com) or Aisa Manlosa (aisa.manlosa@leuphana.de or aisamanlosa@gmail.com) on or before 15 October 2017.

We hope that you can attend the workshop to share your expertise on the Ifugao landscape and contribute to a global analysis of the trade-offs and synergies involved in harmonizing food security and biodiversity conservation. We look forward to your participation and collaboration.
