SHEXXII International Travel Grants

The Society for Human Ecology (SHE) is pleased to make two international travel grants of $US1,000 each available to student and early career academics delegates attending SHEXXII in the Philippines, Nov 28 – Dec 1, 2017. The conference theme is Envisioning Pathways to Just and Sustainable Futures: Celebrating diversity, pursuing integration, and developing livable communities.

To be eligible you must be a current paid up member of SHE. Student and developing nation membership is $30 and professional membership is $60. You can join or rejoin SHE via this link.

Awards will be granted on the merits of your abstract and its contribution to the conference theme and sub-themes. Consideration will also be given to any prior contribution that you have made to SHE. This would include manuscript or book reviews for Human Ecology Review journal, SHE conference best poster or presentation awardees, current or past SHE office holder or other recognition from SHE, and duration of SHE membership and past conference attendance. Please bring any such items to our attention on your application.

You should submit your abstract to the conference organizers at  by the submission cut off date of 15 September. To apply for this grant, send a copy of your submitted abstract to also by 15 September. You will then have until October 2nd to register at the early bird registration rate.

This award is targeted primarily at longer haul international travelers. You should be aware that return flights from the USA can be had for under $600, conference registration is from $130 and accommodation from $20 a night, so the $1,000 budget should largely cover costs. Applications from within the region, eg ASEAN nation states, are welcome but if successful the award may be split due to the relatively cheap cost of local regional flights. Your attention is drawn to the previously announced regional travel awards on offer.

Whether successful or not in securing one of these grants, we hope that you will join us in the Philippines!
